A residency project focuses on empowering a particular educator to teach a specific academic concept with InDiGO's UNIFYING framework . As opposed to a professional development workshop that only includes educators, a residency project includes an educator and their students. We collaboratively plan and design a customized integrative and project-based series of lessons with individual educators according to their academic goals. We then co-teach and facilitate the unified series with their class or group.
This "Graph-iti" project for 4th-5th Math is just one example of how a teacher can inspire their students to utilize long-division and measurement to create an art piece that is centered on their paper, and shares their message with the world.
Students have used this project to create messaging around everything from self-affirmations, to peace and non-violence campaigns. The important part of our unifying approach is that each student creates something meaningful to them. Each project synthesizes and synergizes knowledge and experiences from the past into new pathways forward.
